The Holy Spirit’s Nudging

The start of a new year is a time for making changes and trying new things. People seem to be more open at the beginning of a new year to learn new things and even sometimes, secretly, wish for a do-over year. I tend to try a new recipe, see a new movie or read a new book if it comes recommend to me by a respected friend. I’d like to recommend Bruce Wilkinson’s book “You Were Born for This”. Many of you already know Bruce Wilkerson, the author of The Jabez Prayer.

Have you had times in your life when a friend or acquaintance came to your mind and you felt that you should reach out to them, but you pushed back that thought? Perhaps you thought, I’m just too busy. Have you ever been with other people and you sensed that one of them was hurting? That has happed to me many times. I’ll think that I’ll call or visit later, but then, I don’t. I believe that this is the Holy Spirit nudging (A nudge is an inner push that directs us toward a person, a place, or an action) us to reach out and when we ignore that nudge, we miss a blessing and perhaps they miss a miracle that God wanted delivered. Nudges are almost always about a single act that God wants done soon.

In Bruce Wilkinson’s book “You Were Born for This”, he talks about how we are often the answer to someone else’s prayer. We are to be a living link between Heaven and earth. We were born to be a miracles delivery agent; ordinary people like you and me, used by God, to partner with the Holy Spirit to deliver miracles to others. This requires that we exercise our faith in such a way that we attempt what we cannot do, depending on God to do what only He can. Bruce Wilkerson often asks the person, in need, what can I do for you? He says that we were born to understand and respond to miracle-related signals.

When we take our thoughts off ourselves and place our faith on the Holy Spirit to lead us, we can be God’s miracle delivery agent to meet someone else’s need. What does God want to happen? He will make that known as we make ourselves available.

It is my prayer that we begin the new year by being open to the Holy Spirit’s nudging to be a “miracle delivery agent” for God.

Who Are You?

Recently my husband and I went to see the new faith-based movie “Overcomer” and as we watched one of the scenes a question was asked that gave me pause.

Everyone Needs Affirmation

“If you’re not making someone else’s life better, then you’re wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other lives better.”
― Will Smith

Are You Confined to a Comfort Zone?

Our comfort zone is where our brain doesn’t want anything to change. … Getting out of our comfort zone from time to time creates just enough good stress to ramp up our focus, creativity, pace, and drive, and it helps us respond to life stress when unexpected things happen.

Acts of Kindness

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” Aesop
“A simple act of kindness could be the source of great happiness.” Dr. Debasish Mridha

God Is in Control of Our Steps and Our Stops

Recently the Director of the Women’s Ministry at our church made the comment that “God orders our steps and our stops.” As I thought about that I googled the phrase and learned there are several blogs that discuss this truth.

Attitude – It Is Your Choice

Many people have endured hardships and difficulties in life that has left them disappointed. Their youthful dreams have not turned out the way they had hoped. In the book of Ruth, we read about a woman named Naomi that has experienced a tough time in life.

Buried Grief

It was a crisp November morning when my little sister Ann, two other siblings and myself headed to the school bus stop. We boarded the bus and I assumed that Ann had followed.

Every Encounter Matters

Each day, as we go through life, we have encounters that have the potential of altering the direction of our life or of that of someone else.

Someone is Watching (and Listening)

Your life is a ministry. People are watching you whether you know it or not. A few weeks ago, our pastor reminded us during one of his sermons that people are watching us.
