Everyone Needs Affirmation

“If you’re not making someone else’s life better, then you’re wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other lives better.”

Everyone Needs Affirmation

We all need to be affirmed. We have a thirst to be affirmed that what we are doing is making a difference to others. I recently read “Whether its family, friends, or work colleagues, affirming others lets them know that they matter” Everyday people post items on social media then keep looking to see if others responded with affirming comments. Affirmation brings healing and strength to another person. It can water the seeds of good in a person and help them want to strive to be all that they can be. I believe affirmation is vital in a world filled with language that is negative and aimed at belittling people.

Even people who are seeking to live their lives by faith need to be affirmed and encouraged by others.

In the New Testament we read about a prominent early church leader named Barnabas who possessed a noticeable trait that caused him to be fondly nicknamed Son of Encouragement (Acts 4:37). Barnabas sought out and assisted others and the Apostle Paul wrote several letters of encouragement and affirmation to churches he had established and that were experiencing problems. Are you following the example set by these early church leaders?

  • Do you know someone who is experiencing a difficult time?
  • Perhaps you know someone who is depressed.
  • Someone that has lost their job.
  • Experienced failure
  • Suffered through a broken relationship.
  • Perhaps you know someone who worried about their children or grandchildren, or experiencing health problems?
  • Perhaps someone you know is experiencing emotional pain because of what others have said about them.

We all have people in our lives that need someone like you to take time to be an encourager, an affirmer. Write them a note or call them to encourage and affirm something that you admire and appreciate about them. Focus on something that they do well. Affirm a personality trait that has encouraged you.

Do you know someone who is doing a great job? Life is good for them? All seems to be well. Take a moment to tell them how proud you are of them and how valuable and important they are in your life. Recently one of my granddaughters was in a high school play and I was so excited to be able to affirm her and help her celebrate a job well done. Are you looking for ways to encourage others?

“Therefore, we ourselves boast about you among God’s churches – about your endurance and faith in all the persecutions and inflictions you endure.” (2 Thessalonians 1:4)

Many people have endured hardships and difficulties in life that has left them disappointed. Their youthful dreams have not turned out the way they had hoped. In the book of Ruth, we read about a woman named Naomi that has experienced a tough time in life.

God Is in Control of Our Steps and Our Stops

Recently the Director of the Women’s Ministry at our church made the comment that “God orders our steps and our stops.” As I thought about that I googled the phrase and learned there are several blogs that discuss this truth.

Who Are You?

Recently my husband and I went to see the new faith-based movie “Overcomer” and as we watched one of the scenes a question was asked that gave me pause.

The Holy Spirit’s Nudging

The start of a new year is a time for making changes and trying new things. People seem to be more open at the beginning of a new year to learn new things and even sometimes, secretly, wish for a do-over year.
