Attitude- It is your Choice

Many people have endured hardships and difficulties in life that has left them disappointed. Their youthful dreams have not turned out the way they had hoped. In the book of Ruth, we read about a woman named Naomi that has experienced a tough time in life. Her husband has taken her and her two sons far from her home to live in a strange country. Later her husband and both of her sons died. In chapter one verse 13 we get a glimpse of Naomi’s state of mind. She says her life is bitter and God has turned against her. WOW, that is a true example of a life that has not turned out the way she might have hoped.

Life can be difficult and often is made more difficult as a result of our choices. How about you? Has your marriage not been what you had hoped it would be? Have your children been a disappointment? Have health problems plagued you? Are you living under the burden of financial problems?

If you know my story, you are aware that I lived in a difficult marriage for thirty years so I can understand some of the problems that life can throw at people. It is up to each of us to decide how we deal with adversity and what our attitude will be. I know people who let bad experiences control their lives in the present. They choose to let those past events sour them and create problems in their present relationships . That is unfair to the people that matter the most to them. I’ve learned to live in a “day tight compartment”. Each day is new and is given to us as a “present”. Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts of my past I choose to be thankful for the two wonderful children that my marriage produced and ultimately my five beautiful granddaughters.

Naomi made a choice to return to her home with her daughter-in-law Ruth. That positive decision led to a new beginning for them both and an opportunity for her to overcome bitterness and experience the joy of becoming the grandmother of Obed. Chapter 4. Verse 16 says “Naomi took the child, placed him on her lap, and became his Nanny”. Obed became the grandfather of King David.

I know it can be difficult, but I encourage you to fully give your life to God and trust in his promises. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” Let the Lord be the source of your hope. Remember, people in our lives will disappoint us but God never will. Give God the opportunity to determine your attitude today and live with an attitude of gratitude. When we choose to develop a positive attitude we are able to experience the true joy that God wants for us.

The Holy Spirit’s Nudging

The start of a new year is a time for making changes and trying new things. People seem to be more open at the beginning of a new year to learn new things and even sometimes, secretly, wish for a do-over year.

God Is in Control of Our Steps and Our Stops

Recently the Director of the Women’s Ministry at our church made the comment that “God orders our steps and our stops.” As I thought about that I googled the phrase and learned there are several blogs that discuss this truth.

Are You Confined to a Comfort Zone?

Our comfort zone is where our brain doesn’t want anything to change. … Getting out of our comfort zone from time to time creates just enough good stress to ramp up our focus, creativity, pace, and drive, and it helps us respond to life stress when unexpected things happen.

Someone is Watching (and Listening)

Your life is a ministry. People are watching you whether you know it or not. A few weeks ago, our pastor reminded us during one of his sermons that people are watching us.
